Suga, the Idol With Two Sides

Nietzsche said,”Without music, life would be a mistake.” Suga of BTS best fits this sentence. He is a music producer and rapper of BTS. His lyrics are usually strong and emotional because he has overcome numerous difficulties. Finally, he reaches where he is standing today.

Even though he was a good student in class, his dream was to become a music producer when he was at a very young age. Nevertheless, his parents, just like most of other parents, strongly disagreed with this dream. His mother threw his lyrics books and music away and forced him to focus on studying. Despite of all the pressure and expectations from his parents, this cherished dream did not extinguish. As he grew older, the desire and passion for music became stronger and stronger. Therefore, he fought with his parents, ignored their disapproval, and made the decision to leave home at the age of approximately sixteen. He came to Seoul alone from his hometown, Daegu. To make a living, he became newspaper delivery boy while training as a trainee in BigHit Entertainment to achieve his dream. Life wasn’t easy for him those days. One day when delivering the newspaper, a car accident happened, which caused a serious damage on his shoulder. He kept his injury a secret from his company owing to the fear of losing his career.

When mentioning Suga, he was the one that suffered greatly from mental illness. During those hard and pressured days, he developed severe depression and social anxiety. Although he had recovered from those health concerns, they still affected him a lot on his thoughts and styles of life. For example, the song, “The Last.” This song talks about on the other side of a famous rapper lies a weak spirit struggling to survive.

He showed the fans that even though he seemed energetic and happy on stage or in front of cameras. He was still nothing but a human being, just like us. Struggling, sadness, depression were a part of his daily life. Darkness could never disappear no matter who you are and how successful you are. The brighter the light was shining from the front, the darker the shadow was at the back.

“Stay innocent, be naive. But still dream big. Dream big to the point that it is beyond your ability and endeavor to achieve it. So dream big and don’t lose your innocence.” –   Suga
